September 29, 8: I have an old and used laptop. An HP Elitebook p. Around an year ago, the charger that I had received with it fried. Since it was an old system, I couldn’t find any new or genuine chargers so I had to buy a cheap knockoff charger. The charger I bought fried after 2 months or so. It’s replacement did too. And the replacement after that.

Comments The other weekend, I sat down and sorted through all my random electronics junk. As part of that process, I took all my power supplies and adapters and threw them into a box. It ended up being a pretty big box. Having so many chargers can be pretty frustrating. And once that happens, it can be incredibly difficult to figure out which goes with which. The default solution to this is to try random plugs until you find one that fits into your device.
If you need your power supply later to power up a computer normally, simply remove your paperclip — no modifications are done to your power supply either so you will not void your warranty. If you don’t see something that looks like that, you may want to get one. Nah, I don’t have one.. I’ll probably have to go downtown and pick one up today. I am reading this, and I hear you say that you do not want to try to start the board by shorting across the 2 power pins. However, you state that you are certain the power supply is not bad, because you have tested each of the power supply leads with a tester.
Your statements lead me to believe that your assessment of your PSU may not be conclusive. A motherboard speaker, so you can listen to beep codes, is a must for troubleshooting these things. I followed this tutorial http: Checked the motherboard and CPU pins. I don’t have a hard drive connected to this machine so there were no others to check. But like I said I’m new to this so I might have made a mistake somewhere, so might try it again, going through it more carefully.
Looks like none of the shops downtown have any. I ordered one online, so I won’t be able to respond until it shows up in the mail.
Replacing a Power Supply
My first Gainclone used a heavy torroidal transformer and a linear regulated power supply. It works well but is bulky, expensive, and inefficient. Switching power supplies are more efficient and cheaper, but close attention needs to be paid to startup and noise issues. Audiophile power amplifiers shun cooling fans due to background noise, but pay a heavy penalty in size.
A small temperature controlled fan will be almost silent and will allow a lot of saving on heatsinks.
Jun 08, · Unplug everything except the CPU/HSF, PSU, 1 stick of RAM, and the front panel power switch. Connect your monitor to your onboard video. Everything else can be disconnected.
Next Prev The wires on the main 20 pin or 24 pin connectors are color coded. These are the same for all ATX power supplies: The green wire is the “power on” sensor. This wire is internally connected to 5V with a pull-up resistor. If you connect this wire to ground any black wire the power supply will turn on. The gray “power good” indicator is at 5V if each of the output wires is operating at the correct voltages.
To make the connections easier to identify, I used colored markers to color code each slot on the 20 pin connector. I connected to the 3. Solder the wires to each connector. It is easier if you select pins that are a little spaced out from each other. I also used the same colored wires to help keep track of them.
It is easiest to do this at the edge where the two parts come together.

Charging with a Power Supply Learn how to charge a battery without a designated charger. Batteries can be charged manually with a power supply featuring user-adjustable voltage and current limiting. I stress manual because charging needs the know-how and can never be left unattended; charge termination is not automated. Because of difficulties in detecting full charge with nickel-based batteries, I recommend charging only lead and lithium-based batteries manually.
Lead Acid Before connecting the battery, calculate the charge voltage according to the number of cells in series, and then set the desired voltage and current limit.
Open up your computer case so you have plenty of room to install a power supply. Also make sure you have your antistatic wrist band on. Also make sure you have your antistatic wrist band on. While removing the power supply, it helps to make a diagram to remember where everything goes when you are ready to install a power supply.
Ahhh the hassle of old hard drives. If you ever need to get the data off an old drive—or just want to check the drive and maybe erase it before disposal—you could always crack open your PC and mount the drive inside. There are much better solutions around these days. The trouble with an enclosure is that it takes almost as much time to mount the drive in an enclosure as it does to mount the drive in your PC.
The beauty of a dock like this is that you can leave it connected to your PC and just plug in an old hard drive whenever you need access. Some docks even let you connect two hard drives at once.

Mar 27, , I ran through the checklist and couldnt find anything that I did incorrectly. I ordered it from Amazon, but who knows how long they have had it. Is there any way to update it without buying a new CPU? Not sure if that gives any more information. TheDraac Mar 28, , 1:
Apr 05, · If the PC won’t come on, then the monitor won’t come on. The monitor power up is signaled from the PC video drivers. I don’t want to be tacky, but how about telling us something about the PC.

A Big Power Supply for SSPAs
The first step to replacing a power supply or any other component in a PC is to unplug the power cable from the back of the power supply. The socket for the power cord is above the screwdriver in the picture. The next step is to remove the cover from the case, which varies like crazy from brand to brand.
On a standard midtower case like this one, you only need to remove a side cover, the one on the opposite side of the power supply fan grille than the cord socket and switch. The cover is already removed in this pictures two screws and it slides right out. Finally, we get to removing the screws that hold the ATX power supply in place.
Two or more power supplies can be connected to supply higher voltages or current. The simplest method to create higher current is to connect the power supplies in parallel and leave only one supply in constant voltage mode.
Released in October Specifications for Mini-A and Mini-B plug and receptacle. Also receptacle that accepts both plugs for On-The-Go. These should not be confused with Micro-B plug and receptacle. Released in May New standard descriptor was added that allows associating multiple interfaces with a single device function.
New Motherboard & Power Supply Keep Rebooting Every Few Seconds
By Vin Marshall posted Feb 2nd, at 3: There are easier ways to get a simple power supply like this one re-using a wall-wart, for instance. But if you make a power supply like this at least once in your life, you will have a much better understanding of how alternating current becomes regulated DC power. There will be many other power supplies like it, but this one will be yours.
Nov 09, · look in any commercial power supply catalogue and you will see they are classified as single, dual or even triple voltage output. what you want is a dual voltage supply.
Ask Question Step 3: I decided to not cut up my PSU cables as i may need the computer it came from at some point, you will need to find the pins shown in the pic, they are on the connector that was originally on your motherboard, the cables should be green and black, any black ground connector will do the trick. Now a quick check, turn on your PSU and if the fan spins you’re all set for the next step. Add Tip Step 4: Wiring Your Amp So you have your amp ready?
This is a good reference, it was made by BR14n https: I suggest using every except one, you need it later 12V rail there is that’s the yellow wires to ease the load. As the picture shows you need to connect your ground on your amp to the black ground cable from the connector. Once you have your two cables connected you’re ready for your next step. Add Tip Ask Question Step 5: Power Up the Amp Here’s where whether you’re using a headunit or not comes into play, I advise everyone to do this step as a test or as a completing step.
Get a small loop of wire and strip the ends, put one end in your remote on the amp and the other in the batt on your amp.
